okay, next step on the FrankenJetta.

My first turbo, MF 1.6 engine, KKK turbo, 94 body. Pump is from an 85
TD, 068 130 110H with the two accelerator return springs.

Lots of black smoke at higher (2500-3500?) rpms accelerating onto the
highway. Some black smoke in this case seems normal, but a fair sized
puffy cloud seems excessive.

Good air filter, fuel filter may need a change, it's on order. Hose
from turbo to aneroid seems old and loose. No smoke on start, good glow
plugs, etc.

Pedal to the floor from a stop does not smoke too bad, it's just the
high rpms, moreso high rpms under load (on the hills or acceleration).

I was thinking of turning down the max fuel screw. Does this sound like
a logical next step or is there something else I should check out?

Will.

Yeah, and the 81 pickup has big grey puffy clouds on cold weather cold
start, and jumps like it's missing a cylinder, I'm assuming it's the low
compression, but maybe I'll toss some $$ away on rechecking the 2
year-old injectors.
