There are enough aviators here, that I am unabashed at posting this.
I had the experience of a lifetime today, as 4 guys in 2 cessna 150's (I was
one of them), accessed by canola burning VW diesel, (obligatory diesel
content) landed at Ottawa's Rockcliffe airport and taxied up the the new air
museum hanger where Steve Fossett's Vimy replica is being prepared for its
Atlantic crossing. There was not much public fuss, it seemed to have gone
almost without notice.
There it sat in the hanger with the doors open, while 3 airmechs fitted
cowlings to the engines. To demonstrate how informal things were, I, and a
friend, held one of the cowlings in place while the airmech fitted it to the
brackets and installed the fasteners.
Needless to say, my digital camera got up close and personal with the plane.
The biggest (Garret?) turbo I have ever seen, an intercooler the size of a
mack radiator, V8 orenda liquid cooled piston engines made in toronto, and
60 some odd feet of fabric covered wings.
Once I get the pix sorted (good from duds) and burned to a disk, I will
arrange to go somewhere that has high speed, and send them to those who
might be interested.
No way am I going to try to shove them through my 56k modulated knothole.
I should live so long.
Tony, any ideas?
(Tony is my golf flogging computer guru)
Sandy
