This guy did it. If your going to add only 5 psi boost I don't see a problem, of coarse It doesn't mean your not going to have any. I would keep an eye on the exhaust temperature as it would be a terrible to melt a piston(s). http://www.gatm.com/cars/17dt4sale.html
When Volvo built the prototype "SuperSwede" A 1980 Volvo 240 Wagon (which never went into production) used a VW 2.4 L Diesel Turbo Intercooled engine, its maximum boost was 26.5 psi. They claimed only to have only changed the pistons. It would run 0 to 62.5 mph in 8.5 seconds with a top speed of 125 mph. and get tremendous milage. At the time of my article, November 1980 it had lasted 30,000 miles with not problems.
I would think the engine would have ran extremely hot and would cause the engine life to be reduced. Maybe that is why it never went into production. The 740 and 760's run a maximum boost of 11.4 psi boost with no intercooler.
