My buddy's Dasher did this. It was cured by lubricating the return spring arrangement on top of pump.
Reading the threads here, isee that internal problems may be cause also; good internal lubricant is Marvel Mystery Oil. Add to fuel. I had a Fox gasser with over 400k miles and never replaced any part of fuel system that was exposed to MMO. I used MMO in every tank of fuel.
When I was a kid, I worked in gas stations. Cars would come in for service. Any car engine with over 100k was doing real well in those days. 6 cylinder engines could be expected to do 75k. One day, a state trooper car was in for service with over 300k on a Mopar V8. Still running like new and using no oil. Under the hood was a "Marvel Mystery Inverse Oiler". A mayonaise sized jar filled with MMO & hooked to manifold vacuum, it added oil to intake in proportion to throttle opening. Pretty convincing evidence, IMO.

On an '81 Bunny- Runs great, good acceleration but when clutch is
engaged, it takes a second for the engine to idle down. So, when you
are shifting through the gears the engine stays revved like you haven't
let up on the accelerator pedal. The car sat for a few years and I
haven't driven it much yet. The IP won't do this when you play with it
while sitting in the garage. No binding on the levers.....
