Yes, striking a steel object while subjected to a magnetic field will
magnetize it.
I have a demagnetizer (an old 7" tape reel eraser) That I use on
tools....and anything else i need to demagnetize.
Not sure if a small magnetic lifting/ recovery tool would magnetize a lifter
enough to be a threat, or if the constant whacking from the cam would
demagnetize it just as quickly.
If in doubt, erase it.
