[Vwdiesel] output shaft seal

OK I finally was able to get the transmission output shafts off. Basically
all I did was remove the circlip, which was easy to do, put my home made
puller on and pulled the output shaft, removed old seal, cleaned up the
area, installed new seal, light grease on seal and output shaft, pushed
output shaft on with home made tool, installed cupped washer, installed
circlip, installed circlip cover/seal and back together with new CV jointed
axle. Piece of cake. Why I was trying to push in the output shaft to get the
circlip off is beyond me, no need to. So now I have new seals in both and
ready to rock down the road. I did find one thing, my drivers side lower
ball joint was shot. $36 for a new TRW one at Advance Auto Parts. So if I
read the Bentley correctly I need to get my alignment checked, camber? Or
caster? I get those confused. At least it looks like the lower ball joint
three bolts have some adjustment to them. Right? All in all I'm slowly
rebuilding this entire 91 Jetta. I noticed that my drivers side caliper was
loose on the mount bolts and the Teflon was squeezing out around the caliper
mount bolts. I have a new set of those on order. That should help with my
rattle up there. On the output shafts, I do have a spring behind them but
don't see what it does since I had to press them on and pull them off. The
concave washer was on the outside against the circlip. All backwards from
what I was imagining it to be. It has been a great Saturday as well. Low
humidity, 89F with a light wind and sunny, perfect weather.
