I have owned and/or driven my parents VW diesels for more than a 15 counting 
5 different vehicles, and the only electrical repairs necessary have been 
faults that the vehicles had when purchased or burned out bulbs and glowplugs.  I 
have found even the electricals to be reliable.  Perhaps I am just lucky?
