[Vwdiesel] Petter diesel update

Today I got the piston free of the cylinder!!!!!!!  I took piston and
cylinder sleeve with con rod hanging out  it to a friend's commercial
machine shop and used a BIG hydraulic press.  Once out I could see if I'd
been soaking the sucker for years I'd likely have had no success.  Now I can
get on with the engine restoration!

Once again the adage holds.  Don't use more force, just get a bigger hammer.

I found a source for a new set of Petter factory replacement rings.  They
want $145.00 for three rings.  I think that is so funny I'm going to try to
find rings that will work from another application.  I figure I should be
able to get enough rings to do a set of six or eight cylinders for no more
than $40 if I ask for something a lot more common.  I think I may have found
an exact match in a 1998-97 Ford 3.8 liter sox.  At least the bore diameter
is within limits.  Now that my piston is out I can soon measure the ring
width and depth.
