i don't know if your talking bout a rabbit or 
jetta?

i wanted to do this to my 81 jetta.
asked a jettaholic about it.
he had done it to his to put massive speakers in 
the back.
said he could notice a slight difference in 
handling (forget how)
also.
i believe in an accident...this metal  adds some 
rigidity/safety.
im still thinking of doing it, but want to 
re-enforce the area
around where i remove metal.

support without compromising
any unabody structure add plywood for the times 
when the rear seat is
required.
