[Vwdiesel] '84 TD oil pressure

My friend with the '84 Quantum TD changed his oil yesterday.  He bought Mobil 
1  10W-30.  Shortly after that his warning buzzer began going off.  We put on 
a mechanical gauge today.  The warning buzzer was fairly obviously not 
working correctly, as it would buzz even when the engine was off, and at cold start. 
 The gauge would register 70 psi with buzzer still buzzing.  When the engine 
was fully warmed up the buzzer and oil pressure light Stopped buzzing and 
flashing.  At that point the hot idle oil pressure had dropped to 8 psi at the 
head and would get up to 50-60 revved up fairly well.  I recommended that he 
switch to the 15w-50.  I was wondering if anyone could confirm the gear size of 
the oil pump for that year.  Also was wondering what was involved in removing 
the pan from the engine in the quantum, as there is an additional crossmember to 
contend with.  Any other thoughts?
