[Vwdiesel] Speedo numbers

Sir Svend,  I just fixed my '84 speedo with a touch of super glue.  The
meters are the same 81-84 near as I can tell.  Anyway, my odometer
wasn't working so I took the speedo out only.  You don't need to remove
the whole integrated circuit panel to do this, just most of the Phillips
screws, carefully lift the circuit panel out of the way and slip the
speedo out.  On Rabbits prior to the upshift light, the idiot light
colored lenses will fall out when you take the back of the panel but
they are relatively easy to get back together if you haven't had too
many Ciders!  

Take the speedo out and you will likely find a little yellowish gear of
plastic that has a chunk broken out of it with the piece laying in the
housing somewhere.  The gear will slip off the end of the shaft- I
cleaned the pieces with carb cleaner and superglued it back together.
It is working great now.

If you do need another instrument cluster for parts or fun, let me know-
I will send you one as I have several about.  I'm guessing that you
would prefer the '81 style w/o the upshift light?

Bunny Bondo   girl is perfect in every way as a transporter  ----BUT
she has one little

It is a real handy thing to have when doing Smileage tests ---and this
one was accurate.
Accurate ?   ----incredible.     Time and time again I tested her
according to kilometer
markers on Highway 101 --------down to inches -----+ - .  All the spare
ones here are 
1980 models   and they do NOT have the tripper. ---shit.

The Bentley I got VRD4  is as clear as MUD  on speedos and cables and
gears.

Exactly what year did production of VW diesels start in the US of A. ?
Now with a bit of
help from you guys  ---maybe ---just maybe I can swap speedos 1982 and
19 84 ?

I need the tripper more on Bunny Bondo  --than on Bunny Clonk. (Man did
she clonk or what)
when I got her.
