[Vwdiesel] Diesel Vacuum Diaphragm

 Have an '83 Rabbit Diesel. The brakes have a very hard feel and there is always sound of "squeezed air" emanating when the pedal is initially depressed. I've seen diaphragm replacements on ebay, but they are a much larger diaphragm than what is on this car. Is thre an easy replacement for this model ('83), what is involved, and does it immediately restore full boost function to brakes. Where can it be purchased, and what is involved with its replacement? Thanks!
