IMHO      for your old Rabbit  ----get a FRESH      Interstate or Canadian Tire
specified diesel battery.

Interstate case is marked with filling date.    .I accept nothing more than 3 month.

I have one of each  ---so far ok. For topping fluid ? Use destilled or rainwater only.

Brand NEW ?  ---to me that means nothing.   I test them all day one.    Do a
drawdown test  .   Measure voltage in middle of post  --with a known load.   I use a locked starter.
Short time now   just long enoughf to get a reading. ----Original VW wiring only.
Write down numbers so you can find them later.  I write in back of Bentley.

Remember with a Lead acid battery ---the minute you add acid  --the clocks start ticking  
even if left in the shop.

25 dollar ?    IMHO      do not buy. ----and No spiral plates for me----get no maintenance free
type ---get one where electrolyte can be seen. ----by pulling ventcaps.

Yes  I have 48 spiral cells here  2.0 Volt 5.0 AH.    Cyclon Gates energy products  PN 0800 0004
great cells. BUT  expensive.

A good Rabbit battery price ?    65  to 95 dollars Canadian.    Life on west coast ?
maybe 5 years.

PS : Funeral for two good old friends this week.    Last night  Lester F Mitchell  of LULU island
BC. designed at least one diesel.   By the way what happened to dry charged battery
procedure ?
