what is special about the spirals ? very very rugged and spillproof. and
high amp/hr
rating for dimentions and weight. Long life.Very expensive.
In James Hansen land do batteries ever freeze and bust the case ? --you bet.
Are battery warmers used in Hansen land ? you bet. If you survive in
Hansen
land after a week of solid 42 below ? --you are ready for the world my son.

Hagar . all charged up.

LOL!
You're killing me....

So why don't you like the AGM batteries Hagar? I have most of my fleet in
them now, and they perform remarkably well here in the deep freeze. So far
half of them have outlasted one regular lead acid, and a few have outlasted
two. by this I mean the change interval that is began with a timid little
"click" when you turn the key on a frosty morning, certainly only on days
when running late to start with, and for sure only when the clicker is the
only vehicle plugged in. I've moved over one car, and usually started the
next one in line plugged in or not, and used it to boost the dead horse.
Too many times I have had regular lead acid batteries fail overnight. No
interior or trunk light left on, but a shorted cell internally drains them
or some other such arctic joy, because they refuse charge after.
Not to mention, regardless of the quality, the standard battery inevitably
leaks at the posts, and corrodes the terminals, adding more fun. Not so the
AGM battery, they do not leak, and I have never had so shiny and good a
connection for years... I've forgotten the joys of post cleaning almost
entirely.. except for a few on machinery and the like to remind me why I buy
AGM batteries. I'm of the opinion that they are money well spent, and are
better for the environment in the long run as they last longer than a
regular lead acid, double at the very least in my experience.

Since the lead acid battery cases have been made of plastic, not that
glorified wax substance they were once made of, I haven't seen a broken case
from frost. I've seen them round like a football, but no broken ones...
