question: how bad is that black puff? what does it consist of? (it does
not smell particularly good)
suspicion: may be caused by no GP cycling
when engine is warm but not hot GP circuit doesn't engage and start is
not instant
black stuff = unburnt/poorly burnt fuel? like creosote from a woodstove?
Black is too rich, burned fuel. White is unburnt. When at rest, the
injector pump sits at full fueling, when the engine starts and rotation
speeds up, it retracts to idle fueling. (At least that's the way Jake
'splained it to me, I've never sat down and studied it that closely).
That would fully explain a black puff at startup. Full throttle then
immediately backed off.
He'd brought it up because I always hold the car at high throttle
when starting back up after fuel disassembly. He pointed out that
it's already at full throttle but I do it so there's enough rpm to carry
it through the air bubbles. :-)
