>Rob, Yes, they have 150 HP TDI's that get 50 MPG,
but I don't think you are realizing what he's saying.
Even the 90 HP engines will not get 50 MPG IF you are
running them at 90 HP output. When you are getting
the good MPG's, you are running at a fraction of the HP
output, not with your foot on the floor.

well....
50mpg imperial on 97 passat ran at an average speed of 150kph for threeish
hours.
shouldn't happen in theory, but it did, and is easily repeatable. Car is a
daily driver, sitting a few feet away as I type. gets low 60's ordinarily
with the wife driving.

who could take them off my hands. After breaking my leg in a wreck in a
small car
( '04 chevy Aveo cracker box), I am somewhat shy of riding in small cars..
I wish that I had been driving my 7100 lb 3/4 ton diesel 4x4 Dodge truck
when the other
car pulled out in front of me while I was doing 45 MPH.
I think I would have turned out in a lot better shape if I had!

yes, you would have, but you were in an aveo. No comparison to a volkswagen
chassis.. I've been t-boned in an early Jetta. passenger compartment was
not compromised at all, I had minor crash discomfort.. You would do well to
fix a rabbit. they are an excellent chassis. I'd rather ride an early volks
chassis through a crash than most of the newer detroit iron.
Aveo's are built so light, you can't even press a tiny bit when you block
sand one, or you get ripples in the finish from the metal bowing in. Not a
crashworthy car in my opinion, they are one big crumple zone. Every one I've
seen hit is a near write-off, even the ones that get fixed. The body shop
guys I know cringe when one comes in, everything is just so thin, really
tough to weld on.
I was hit similarly in an s-15 truck on the passenger side. the passenger
door wound up at the gearshift. Good thing no passenger at the time
My experiences are why the fleet is all volkswagen for daily drivers around
here.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery.
