[Vwdiesel] IP / bosch info - O-ring

Last time I replaced one of those O rings, I removed the pump & did the job on a bench. If you've never been inside one of these pumps before, the bench may be the best bet. But I think if you are very careful, and have good lighting, you may be able to do this job with pump in place. Four screws attach the forged steel pump part to the aluminum body. After removing fuel lines and those 4 screws, steel part just slips out revealing O ring. Be VERY careful and observant during this disassembly operation. Getting it all back together is a lesson in patience. It has been suggested in this forum to use rubber bands to hold everything in place during assembly. I never tried that, but have had success using vaseline.
Good luck.

So, does replacing the O-ring involve dismantling everything between the
fuel line exits & the ring itself?
