The 1.6 NA I pulled from a 1984 Jetta had two pulleys on the crank, large
towards engine, slightly smaller in front. Then same deal on the water
pump. large towards the pump and smaller out front. Both H20 pump pulleys
were smaller than the crank ones. My car had air conditioning. I don't
recall what drove what. Sorry. I'm using the larger of the crank pulleys
and the smallest of the H20 pump pulleys now on my genset. The single belt
also drives the mechanical governor which is mounted approximately where the
A/C pump would have gone.
