Loren,

You seem to be addressing the comments of several contributors.  I said
nothing about variable speed transmissions.

Up to a certain power setting on the welder the engine would drop RPM and
then the governor could pull it back to speed quickly after the welding arc
was struck.  Above a certain current setting the engine RPM would drop and
not recover. It was a case of overloading the engine.
