Sooo.... I wish to flush the heater core on the Passat.
I have a jug of citric acid (dry powder) with which to do the job.
Expensive pink juice is out, suitable plumbing devices in place to isolate
the heater core from the rest of the system.
How long to leave the stuff in?
I know with a chemical acid, it isn't long before you get to see through
thin aluminum like heater cores and such, but i have no experience with this
stuff other than using it to alter pH of water a few points when crop
spraying.
How long should I leave the organic acid in place?
Any good guesses? Any actual hands-on experience?
I'm looking at leaving it in place overnight.
Attempted methodology is to flush with boiling H2O and sodium metasilicate
to remove any surface oil so the acid can get to it. Organic acid is pretty
mild (think sour gummy bears). So remove the cleaner, then pour in warm
gummy bears... er... warm acid solution, and leave overnight. Drain and
flush after church tomorrow.
If this is too long a time to sit, lemme know, I'll check mail tonight.
If it's too long, and you don't get back to me by Monday, that's okay, I'll
have found the puddle under the heater core by then. :-)
