[Vwdiesel] wiper fuse blows/smoke from steering column

Hi all,

     My 84 Rabbit has started blowing it's fuse when I
turn on the wipers, as well as it's accompanied by a
little bit of smoke coming from the steering column. 
I have the electrical print, but does anybody have any
quit hints, where to start or what to look for.  

  I hope Loren comes back to us he's been a great
help.
