Thus it is desirable to increase alternator regulation, especially at idle. I have a Dodge camper van and tried using a switched continuous type solenoid relay for awhile. Eventually the sealed relay contacts either carboned up or pitted, reducing output, so I went back to using isolators. Don't know if that particular solenoid relay was just a bad one but it did work for a year or so. Found the 28mm ring adjustable regulators that fit my 90 amp alternator are available as Transpo# IB373A. Will check a local distributor for availability. The parts dismantler said he usually stocks some. Milt.
I've been running a sealed solenoid from Painless wiring for the last 6+ years on my Toyota 4x4 (dual batteries) and it has
worked flawlessly:

I think there are also at least one isolator controller (Hell Roaring as I recall) that combines an isolator and a solenoid of
some sort to eliminate the diode drop.
