I drive a 95 Dodge Neon. The field elevation ranges from approx. 3500 feet here at the house to 4000 feet at the top of the pass. I tried to burn the 85 octane garbage and even the antiknock feature couldn't keep the engine from knocking while climbing the pass. So from personal experience even electronics cannot keep low octane fuel from ruining an engine.

"I don't know, but I doubt very much there are high enough compression
engines on the consumer market that REQUIRE high octane rated fuel."
