Interesting. I doubt that it's a compression issue in a neon however, and it
is a dodge... ;-)
Do you know the CR on your Neon? I would be interested to know..
I'd bet whiskey to washers it has a lot more to do with tuning than anything
else.
It's interesting when I go south to see how much of the higher grades of
fuel are sold. Here in Canada, there is regular, and premium. Premium is
usually used by those with the WRX's, A6 audi's etc, not a real hot item,
but they are convinced that they need to run it, so they do. Regular goes
in the tank in everything else, and if it was insufficient to climb the
mountain passes, let's say the Coquihala or Rodger's Pass, motorists would
sip hot lead and spit rivets. In the US, not to pick on you Justin, it
seems like you are okay with buying more expensive fuel to just drive on a
regular public road. Why? Is the lower MON fuel percieved as inferior?
There isn't a car on the road that can't burn 85 octane.

I drive a 95 Dodge Neon. The field elevation ranges from approx. 3500 feet
here at the house to 4000 feet at the top of the pass. I tried to burn the
85 octane garbage and even the antiknock feature couldn't keep the engine
from knocking while climbing the pass. So from personal experience even
electronics cannot keep low octane fuel from ruining an engine.

engines on the consumer market that REQUIRE high octane rated fuel."
