[Vwdiesel] Check valves - long vs short?

I went to install the injectors in my TD, and discovered my new pump came
with long check valves, which means the injector lines won't fit. The valves
are about 15mm longer. Can I swap valves from my old pump, or should I
try to bend the lines (I'd rather not).
It appears the valves are shimmed like injectors, and the numbers are
different between the short & long, so I'd have to swap the works. I'm
assuming the PO of this pump used it on an older engine, so swapped the
valves to fit the lines. If I swap the valves, are there any pitfalls to watch for
aside from losing all the little pieces?
