  If it's the older style housing (kinda squarish and boxy) then you should 
be 
able to swap the clips around.  There are "inner" and "outer" locations for 
the clips so swapping them "fixes" the problem basically.  I've done it where 

the clips were loose and rattled slots where there should be just holes for 
the clips to pivot in.  If you have the more rounded housing then I'm not 
sure if it has the double sets of clip locations.
  Not too bad a price for a new housing.  Considering shipping, scrounging 
and possibly getting something not much better and certainly just as old... 
  Seems VW gets the prize for ineptness generally.  Not ALL VW dealers 
are that bad but the bad ones tend to be the worst of all makes.
