Not sure why they'd be going so cheap since milage is now important again,


  Probably because MB diesels don't make THAT good of mileage.  
Dad's 220 typically made about 28 ish and the 300 TD makes in the 
low 20's.  The 220 made mid 30's once, when there was a problem 
with the vacuum doo-dad on the pump, on the factory rebuild.  It was 
really lopey at low speeds that way though.  
  West coast rep had a 300 he'd offered to Dad that made about double 
the mileage of his 300.  Said he didn't start looking for fuel until 700 to 
750 miles.  Dad's is empty around 350!
