Anyone else ever have that kind of failure?
A friend's Rabbit dropped the head off an exhaust valve. It bounced
around in there and trashed the head. Don't remember if it broke the
piston or not. He was actually able to rebuild the block! Just needed
a rebuildable head, which came off a car I'd fairly recently tuned up with
new injectors, timing and so on.
Those people were SO happy to have the car running again. BUT,
they failed to keep an eye on the temp. It blew a hose and they kept
going until it died, ended up at a friend's shop, changed hands and
converted to gas. :-(
Gee, now that I think about it he needed a BLOCK and actually was able
to reuse the head! I have the crank in my Jetta so it mustlve been the
block that died. Lucky I remember that far back anyway! ;-)
