I get better performance than the 83-85 1.9L gasser, which in similar driving 
conditions would probably max out at about 20 MPG.  It is a big load for a 
1.6TD, especially considering it is the complete camper package (sink, fridge, 
stove, and two double beds) but that little engine carries with style.  It 
cruises effortlessly at 70 MPH, and only the biggest hills slow it down.  I have 
not seen a hill that I couldn't climb easily at 50 MPH in 4th gear with pedal 
left over.
