  Often the oil and startup smoke are from blowby vapors pooling in the 
compressor housing and intake boots, etc.  Grating sound is odd.  
Pull the inlet loose and grab the compressor nut and give it a wiggle, 
and a push-pull.  Try and figure out where the noise is coming from. 
My first guess would simply be carbon somewhere unless it's wobbly 
enough to be touching the housing.
  Rebuilding one's not that tough.  :-)
