Scribe marks? I like to use a piece of that green masking tape. Clean
the area well, cut a piece of tape just the right length and press in on
across the IP and bracket.  Then with a sharp blade, cut the tape at the
junction b/t mount and IP. When you move the pump you can see exactly
how far it has been moved. The tape will stay there for many months
depending upon the weather.

Chuck Carnohans procedure has Hagars approval  --- nifty way IMHO ----BUT I do a more
permanent thing I paint with Dumpster  Nail polish.----works for me.
