  Most likely due to the heat, however you'll still get wobble due to 
leverage.
With that in mind you can guesstimate how much the wobble is at the other 
end of the shaft when you wiggle the intake end.  They usually don't have 
much and you want basically NO end play.  Once they go they usually 
go.  I've only seen one and it kind of greanaded.  My sister has a Capri 
Turbo.  At 70K the IHI turbo was making a brrrrzzzzzzpppp sound from 
time to time.  Pretty soon it made one last noise and started smoking 
heavily.  Shaft was broken, impeller hit the housing first.  She'd never 
changed the air filter in 70 thousand miles!!!!  Sheesh!  Typical motoring 
public.
