Now I think #1 and #4 could also be related to my used injection pump of unknown
origin - the fact that I've had to crank the fuelling so much for normal operation
(about 3/4 turn now) suggests someone may have messed with it before. I may try
swapping my old TD pump back on, at least I know how it used to run.

Thanks guys.

Hagar sez : I am the most devious tricky dumpster diving and freebie wizard of all
time --trust me.
so I know how to help you using the 250 numbers.-----if I can not get to you using
-800 --- we can connect and cheap. some other way.

What you need is NOT TIMING --you need TUNING ---and the Hillbilly TUNING gang of all
time can be found in this forum---trust me --- you want to trip through the TULIPS
--go to HOLLAND----you want to learn about CEMENT ? --head for Denmark ----if you want
a really SWEET running VW Diesel ? --stay right here --- When you get to the point
where you FULLY understand what Hillbilly TUNING is all about ? --you will NEVER go back
to TIMING. ---trust me.
BUT do not dispose of that dial just yet---it is needed for testing the PUMP ---yes the
IP-.
SO ? --the answer ? as close as a phone call.

Hagar.

PS : Please post all the numbers on pumps and history. ---do not store with ATF use
Lube oil and fresh.
Why fresh ? ---NO moisture in oil is important for long time storage---or use real rust
preventative.----------But always keep a spare pump full. For the TURBO pumps ? move the
idle lock-nut up to the Sprocket end then it is easy to get at.----worked for me --and
I do a lot of adjusting.
