I bet those 3 cylinder TDI's are 10x the cost of a 1.6TD. Folks on some 
sites claim 140+BHP from one of those. Others seek manual pumps for TDI's... 
Don't worry about xs overhang  over the back wheels ; just stick a tool kit/ 
chunk of something under the front hood. Take some 'moments' about the back 
wheels and see for yourself :o)
Used to do this in my first car a rear engined rwd Hillman IMP. Twin 
Strombergs and 12 mpg for a 998 Ralley version...  Ah even I had fun once
