Well, the Judson (if you could ever find one that isn't worn out) would take the mighty 40 HP all of the way up around 60. The latest of the pushrod Porsches (356SC/912) 1.6l is around 90 DIN. High performance, normally aspirated, aircooled VW engines have been well past double that figure for 30 years. Even an over-the-counter 150 HP is just a phone call away. Serious racers are probably double that with no turbo or nitrous. BUT, if it is aircooled gasser you want, the size of the engine room of a Ghia is a perfect fit for ANY Porsche 6 cyl. They may bolt up to the trans, but that will break with anything much over 150 or so, and the ratios are just plain no good for anything, so you need a box anyhow. And, if you want the easy way out, you are back to 1969 or later IRS cars ('68 was still swing axle).
