I don't know if some of the earlier TDIs had the old style bolt pattern, but all of the aluminum pan engines do.
The Ghia might get a tad tail-heavy, but puting the battery and rad up front would cure some of that. It MIGHT just go in at 15 degrees, though, since the engine room was for the "upright" fan shroud - a bit more room maybe than a Vanagon. Changing the ride height would not make any measureable difference in weight distribution (as in GRAMS, not Kgs).
However, if it is light weight, sports car and EASY installation you want, just get a Mk1 Scirocco and dump a TDI in there, and you have the best of both worlds (yeah, it is not a Ghia, but it sure is a lot easier and CHEAPER to do). Not to mention things like cooling, heating and a/c work just fine with that setup (nearly bolt-in).
