I think I just swallowed my tongue....

The Lada as it was sold in Canada was a Fiat 181, the entire production 
tooling, dies etc were sold to former USSR because it was a pretty bad car.

Guess what I saw on the road the other day...a NIVA (nivo?) 4 wheel 
drive that looked like a rusty lada station wagon with a lift kit. Must 
have been restored/driven by some hardy soul.

Haven't compared much on eiether side of te border other than some of 
the obvious ones to the VW owners, such as vw diesels were sold here all 
along, rather than in fits and starts like in the US.
