For those that may be interested, I have posted three pictures of my
destroyed turbo on my website at this direct link:

I went for a long drive today to make sure that the replacement turbo
was operating properly and that I hadn't done something wrong. I
noticed something immediately. The stock turbo on the 98 AHU Jetta
TDI was made by Garret. The stock turbo on the Passat 1Z was a KKK
(this is what I had to replace my destroyed one). Both look
identical, same size, same arrangement of external parts but
apparently they are different. Ever since I have owned the Jetta
(80000 plus miles now) it has always boost spiked to only 16-17 psi
and then quickly dropped back. Now this is interesting because the
car is chipped and I guess I always expected a bit more boost on the
top end. Anyway, while driving today, I noticed that the boost goes
right past 17 and now sometimes touches 20 psi on a real romp in 4th
or 5th gears. I seem to remember that my 96 Passat 1Z also had boost
up to 20 psi. Anyone have something comparable? I will be taking a
really long trip on Saturday (600 miles round trip) so I will have a
better idea of how this replacement turbo effects things. Hayden
