I seem to recall that izusu had a nice 4 cylinder diesel with a 5 speed
in some of their early '80s trucks , don't recall if it was a turbo or
not. You would probably have an easy time getting a 6.2 ltr gm diesel,
pretty reliable from what my friend says. his 3/4 ton 4x4 gets almost
23 mpg on the highway in 2 wheel drive, or so he says, should get you a
decent increase in mileage over that rolling brick of a truck if thats
true.
