[Vwdiesel] How to remove Needle bearing in end of crankshaft

whattool, which I probably do not own, is used to remove the needle bearing 
that is inserted in the end of the crankshaft of an engine that came out of 
a vanagon?
I tried to pry it out, to no avail, only stretched the tiny rubber seal at 
the front of the bearing.
I tried to tap it out using a screwdriver with a 90 degree bend and a 
deadblow hammer.i Iunderstand that it must come out for a standard diesel 
installation, rabbit, golf, jetta, etc.
