Now that you mention it, I did have one bad injector in a 466 that was used
in one of the IH combines years ago.  It was VERY intermittent- would be
very noticeable, then go comletely away, then come back... like you turned
it on and off.

If you think it's fuel filter plugging, it will be blowing black smoke from
the tailpipe.  Major smoke, you won't have to look for it.

  Typically it's a bad injector that will make such rattling but as you say,
warmed up fuel could do it.  Dirty filter causing a change in pressure in
the pump which will change timing, injection quantity or both and add
that to fuel grade or a marginal injector or two...
