I don't buy it.  I think that the service manager knew that your out of round 
pistons were not the problem and didn't want to pay for a new engine due to 
his mechanic's misdiagnosis.  I have read oodles of vw diesel manuals and this 
is the first I have heard of this.  Perhaps the pistons new are out of round, 
but I'm pretty sure the bores aren't supposed to be.  I have a TD block that 
needs to be bored oversize, so I will be getting a new set of pistons before 
too long.  I'll let everyone know if they are round or oval.
