[Vwdiesel] head gasket needed?

It may be that there is no gasket leak. Check for coolant pressurization 
from cranking. Cap could be faulty.
Piece of crud under valve in cap?
Could be a cap for a gasser? Aren't they different operating pressures?  
Along with the diesel 'high temp' thermostat.
What's changed since new cap?
Coolant mixture weak?
