Don't forget that there is about $.35 more road taxes per gallon on Diesel
than gasoline to pay for the higher road wear per gallon burned in big
trucks.

You used to be able to get a federal income tax credit to offset the
additional road tax on new diesel cars and light trucks.  Since I haven't
bought a NEW diesel since the early '80s, I don't know if the credit is
still available.
