Agreed on the comments and regen braking.  However, rather than a bunch of environmentally dissastrous batteries and all the electrical garbage that goes with it, regen braking energy can easily be stored in a mechanically driven flywheel and released into the drivetrain on accel.  High speed flywheels are very compact and have massive energy density, not to mention they can be very simple devices.
