Hi , Thanks for all the wise advice!
The Jetta lost about the same as Lorens, Went from filling up every 3 or 3 1/2 weeks to filling up every 2 weeks. I was getting about 40 in town and now about 33 or so. It's running a bit rough but not bad
though. I've seen diesel from about 2.33/gal to 3.19/gal in Chicago ouch! Here where I live it's between 2.33 to 2.99 - weird then across the street it's 2.79/gal go figure.. The lifters are mechanical - so I'd suppose they need adjustment again. I don't have more than 3k since the head work was done. Thanks again for the help. Jeff

I had my local FLAPS order me a set of heavy duty front springs for
my truck. They brought the front up about an inch. Don't remember
who makes them but they are variable coil springs. Hayden

  HI ,
thanks for your help with the alignment issue everyone. It's great to have
Loren back. I'm wondering why my Jetta has lost some mileage since I had the
head redone. It's a 1989 with a late 84-early 85 engine. The guy at the
parts place in Oregon said that from the numbers I gave him it was made from
August '84 to Oct. '85. Greetings to everyone old and new, TIA, Jeff

'84 - '85 engine should be mechanical followers so maybe you just need a
  valve adjustment.
Last tank I missed 30mpg by 6 miles. Sucks. EVERYBODY gets better
mileage than I do with the '85 Jetta. :-P
       Loren
