[Vwdiesel] OT: diesel hatchback suggestions ??

I've told a lot of people this...
I think VW really does a lot of things well, and
building diesel engines is probably near the top of
the list.
However, I think on the list of things that they can't
seem to quite get right is an automatic transmission
that will last.
There just seems to be a lot of people who have issues
with them after 60-100K miles. Maybe that really
isn't that bad, but it seems like American cars do
this better.
Also, at least in the US, there were no Passat TDIs
offered with an auto trans during the '96-'97 run, not
until 2005. You could probably find a Jetta Wagon TDI
with an auto.
