I realize this is true re world wide pollution & global warming, if the electricity is generated from some form of fossil fuel. However, this would not be the case if the electricity is generated from a nuclear generating plant or some form of renewable energy such as hydroelectric, wind, solar, etc. Also, if you generate electricity from coal at say, 4 corners (AZ,NM, UT,WY), you remove the generation of pollution from a densely populated urban area such as LA to a sparsely populated rural area.
