My 86' na golf has a/c, and you can really tell when the a/c is on. I
lose a good bit of power, so much that I turn the a/c off when I'm
getting on the highway in order to get up to 65 as soon as I
can.{usually in the same day ;-} ] Of course I don't notice it while
at speed, and it tends to smoke a bit more when I take off from a light
with the a/c on too.
