[Vwdiesel] crank seal depth

I've used the starter trick on different things,
though offhand couldn't remember if it would work on
that motor so I didn't want to say it.  Good job.

Anyway, I bet your seal is okay.  Whenever I've done
seals like that, it always seems like there is a bit
of leeway in where it is seated.

As a habit, I like to put just a smear of RTV on the
outside surface of the seal.  Don't know if it helps
or hurts anything, but I haven't had a problem so far.
